Religion in the Sexual Revolution
A common theme in most religions is valuing modesty and purity. In the 1960's those values were thrown out the window for some. From the 60s through the 80s, the United States was engaged in an all out "Sexual Revolution". Love was free and fun. Long gone were the previously high valued ideals of abstinence and purity. For the first time, birth control was accessible to a much wider audience; which meant that sex was "safe and easy". Those engaged in the Sexual Revolution were put off by the strict guidelines of religion and were drawn more towards the no-rules lifestyle the Revolution promoted. It was during this time period that religion was replaced with the more ambiguous idea of "spirituality" and thus traditional religion was challenged.
