Since the spread of ideas through media, especially through newspapers, publications have become politically biased. It is now hard for Americans to find unbiased sources of media and because it is so hard to find unbiased sources of media, the majority of Americans no longer trust the media. Especially present in the 2016 election and the upcoming new presidency is the prominence of the credibility of news and "fake news." President-Elect Trump has been especially critical of the media and the coverage over the 2016 campaign.
FAKE NEWS, DONALD TRUMP, & THE MEDIA

President-Elect Donald Trump, in a rally in Cincinnati on December 1st, criticized the media for their "dishonest" coverage of him during the campaign season. Trump has been known to belittle and denounce the media, which is a cause for concern for some. In his speech, he somewhat vaguely referenced a news anchor who had cried on air when she had realized he would win the election.

Donald Trump's 'Fake News' Tweets Jan. 10 - 12, 2017

President-Elect Donald Trump's go-to excuse for denouncing reports by the media is to label it "fake news." His particular tweets around January 10-12, 2017 are in reference to a document published that make claims to Trump's ties with Russia, something the President-Elect has left in the grey area. He continually questions the media and the validity of their reports. Some are worried that as Trump's four years in office continue, he will disregard any news that makes him look bad as "fake news."
Distrust in media
The average American's trust in the mass media has always been relatively low. However, in recent years, the amount of people who trust the media is less than half. Political affiliations and bias lead Americans to not trust the media.
