Almost deathly thin models walk down the catwalk. Applause is heard. The fashion scene may not be the loudest way that women are objectified and put up on a pedestal to be judged, but its role is not to be overlooked. The effect of body shaming, especially on young girls, can be extremely destructive both mentally and physically. But girls are not the only ones affected by the general objectification of bodies. While women are supposed to have perfect hourglass figures and flawless complexions, men are supposed to have muscular bodies and strong jawlines. Even though people cannot change many of these things about their bodies, both the media and the fashion scene push these ideals onto both genders, but women are more strongly affected.
This artifact is a memo from a woman who recommends that issues that affect women directly should have women's input, specifically in the decisions about uniforms.
"It has been recognized, however, that where matters affecting women are involved, such as housing, uniforms, it is wise to have a woman's point of view considered in making decisions."

This artifact is a photo series from Röra Blue illustrating the role of clothing in victim blaming to show sexism in our society today. These powerful yet simple photos express more than just words.
“Some phrases are things I have been told at different times during my life, others are comments that other women have submitted to me,” she explained. “The photos aim to capture modern day sexism and some of the pressures that women face in society today.”
